The Luing Cattle Society held their 2nd bull sale at United Auctions, Stirling on Monday 17th February. Seven bulls were forward, and 100% were sold to an average of £9540 (9086 gns) and a top of £14,700 (14,000gns), and a further three 5 figure prices. Best of the bunch was Benhar Calypso, consigned by Robert McNee Ltd, Woodend, Armadale, realising £14,700 (14,000 gns). Benhar Calypso is a March 2023 born son of Lammermuir Tremendous out of a homebred dam, and is away to Islay Estates.
Just behind was Craigdarroch Chip, a polled son of Harehead Yogi, and out of a homebred dam by Harehead Jake. T. Renwick, Blackhouse, Selkirk took Craigdarroch Chip home for £13,650 (13,000 gns), to their pedigree herd. Robert McNee Ltd, Woodend, Armadale sold Benhar Cobra to Shawhead Farms, for £11,550 (11,000 gns) for commercial cows. Cobra is a Finlarg Viagra son out of a Benhar Pansy female, which goes back to Culmaily Seamus. AL & AC McCall were first in the ring with Culmaily Crusader, a homozygous polled Harehead Explorer son, who goes home with Messrs Helm, Haltree to some pedigree and commercial cows. R & H McNee, Finlarg had a trio of level bulls, the best of which was Finlarg Corporal, a polled son of Silwick Zembra, which sold to A. Waugh, Thomsons Walls, Mindrum, Northumberland for £6090 (5,800 gns). Next best was Finlarg Comando, also polled, and by Finglarg Zemen, who was snapped up by Messrs Jolly, West Mains of Turin, Forfar for £5,250 (5,000gns). Finlarg Charlie, by Benhar Yorkie, made up the last of the trio and was knocked down to Messrs Fox, St Johns Kirk, Symington for £5,040 (4,800 gns).
